The study planner now finds due flashcards and unseen key terms from lessons you have marked complete, within your saved learning focus.

Switch between due, unseen, and all studied lessons. Open a short review, revisit lesson notes, or try a related experiment or investigation. Nothing is graded or marked complete by opening a recommendation.

A completed-lessons filter in Flashcards keeps review sessions and deck exports within studied material. Its selection is shareable and survives a refresh.

Review terms load only when requested. The queue uses local calendar dates, preserves planner drafts during sync, and works offline once the terms have been opened.

Open the actual terms from a lesson, or choose a course path and lesson in Flashcards. Deck selections can be shared and survive a refresh.

Choose 5, 10, or 20 terms for a short session. Due terms come first, Again offers one extra try, and a clear finish screen replaces automatic restarts.

Reveal and rating controls work with a keyboard, hidden definitions stay out of the tab order, and ratings keep focus in the practice area. Review dates use your local calendar day.

Export only the selected deck to Anki, revisit the source lesson, and keep using saved review schedules through backups and offline practice. Account sync now imports schedules from another device and keeps the newest rating for each term.

Relevant lessons now connect directly to beginner experiments and evidence-based investigations, with a prediction prompt and honest activity completion labels.

Jump to hands-on work from the reader, then return to the same lesson and reflect in your existing notes. Return links survive a refresh and can be shared with the activity URL.

Reading progress remains separate from activity completion.

The header no longer extends past the screen at 320px or 430px. Narrow layouts hide duplicate header controls and offer Random lesson from the mobile menu.

The career-fit quiz action wraps within a phone screen. Browser checks now cover page width and the mobile random-lesson action across representative small widths.

The mobile menu moves focus to its first link, closes with Escape, and returns focus to the menu button.

Search, account, and keyboard-shortcut dialogs keep Tab inside the open panel and restore focus to the opening control when closed.

The keyboard-shortcut panel has a visible Close button. Search and account inputs have accessible names. Background controls are inert while a dialog is open, and browser checks cover focus entry, containment, and return.

The LLM Top 10 lesson now uses the 2026 categories and shows how older risk numbers changed, so a learner does not mistake an old identifier for a current one.

The agentic AI lesson adds OWASP's separate 2026 agentic risk map and a tool-authorization exercise. Related lessons and the Path 18 quiz now cite the right edition.

The API standards lesson names ASVS 5.0.0 and encourages versioned requirement IDs. Glossary and flashcard retry controls now use normal event listeners.

Installing the site now saves its shell without silently downloading every lesson. Opened lessons cache on use; each path page has an explicit Save path for offline use button with progress and partial-failure feedback.

The Start button was invisible on most laptops, and had been for a long time

The header lays out at about 1366px minimum, but the mobile menu only took over below 900px. Everything between those two widths overflowed — by 392px at the narrow end — and because the page sets overflow-x:hidden it was clipped rather than scrollable. The Start button, the single most important control on the site, was simply not on screen at 1024px, 1280px, or any other common laptop width, and there was no way to scroll to it. "My Progress" was also wrapping onto a second line, which is why the header was 91px tall instead of 67px.

Fixed by letting the link row shrink (a flex item will not go below its content width unless told to), pinning the call to action so it can never be the thing that falls off the end, and tightening the row between 901px and 1365px. All eleven links stay visible at every width from 901px to 1920px.

Twenty-five pages had no <h1> anywhere in the document. That is the heading a screen reader user jumps to first to answer "what is this page", and the strongest single on-page signal a search engine has. Every page now has exactly one, and it is the visible page title rather than something hidden. Lessons and path overviews already had theirs, so nothing changed there.

Six controls that could be reached by keyboard had no accessible name at all — the glossary filter, three settings switches, the lesson notes box, and the terminal input in the labs. A placeholder is not a name: it vanishes the moment you type.

Three checks added, and they measure at seven viewport widths rather than one, which is the reason none of this was caught before — every existing check ran at a single window size. Verified by putting each of the three bugs back and watching the right check fail.

Two of the findings in the original audit turned out to be faults in the audit rather than the site: a wrapping <label> is a perfectly good accessible name, and the flashcard rating buttons only look nameless because they are visibility:hidden until you flip the card. Both corrections are baked into the check so it does not cry wolf.

About, Contact, Privacy and Terms — pages this site should have had from the start

There was no privacy policy. That is a problem on its own terms, not just an advertising one: this site can create an account, holds an email address, and syncs your progress to a database, and it was telling you none of that. A reader is owed a plain account of what happens to their data, and there was not one to read.

The privacy policy describes what the code actually does, and was written by reading the code rather than from a template. It says which single browser storage key holds your progress; that without an account nothing leaves your device at all; that accounts are handled by Supabase and store your email, your progress record, your lesson ratings, and — only if you opt in — a leaderboard name and lesson count; that Vercel analytics and speed measurement run on every visit; and that Google serves the advertising. It also says plainly what does not happen: no tracking pixels, no session recording, no fingerprinting, nothing sold, and every security tool on the site processing your input in the browser and never uploading it.

Terms of use, with the section that matters for a site like this one: everything taught here is for systems you own or have written permission to test. Unauthorised access is a criminal offence in most countries, curiosity is not a defence, and neither is having learned the technique here. The certificate section is equally blunt — it is a personal record, not an accredited qualification, and no employer is obliged to recognise it.

About and Contact, because a course written by one person with no way to reach them and no explanation of why it exists reads as abandoned, which it is not.

All four are crawlable pages with proper schema — AboutPage and ContactPage are the types that say "a reachable person runs this" — and all four are linked from the footer of every page.

The check worth having reads the config files, works out which third-party services are genuinely switched on right now, and fails the build if the privacy policy does not name each one. The realistic way a policy goes wrong is not dishonesty, it is adding a service two years later and forgetting this page exists. Verified by enabling an undisclosed analytics provider and by quietly deleting the word "Supabase" — both were caught.

The certification roadmap was a year out of date, and silent about it

It listed seven certifications — Security+, eJPT, PNPT, OSCP, CySA+, CEH, PenTest+ — and not one of them was newer than 2025. An entire category of certification was created during 2026 and the page did not mention it, which is a worse failure than being incomplete: a reader planning their next two years would have come away thinking nothing had changed.

Six additions, now thirteen in all. TryHackMe now issue their own certifications (SEC1, SAL1, PT1), which matters because SAL1 is scored mostly on simulated SOC shift work rather than recall, and PT1 ends in a written report. Three AI security certifications did not exist a year ago: OffSec's OSAI, a 24-hour practical engagement in the same shape as the OSCP exam; Hack The Box's COAE, seven days against AI-driven infrastructure finished with a commercial-grade report, built with Google; and GIAC's AI suite, split by role and sat on real machines.

The list is now ordered as a ladder from first job to specialist, because the question this page answers is "what next" and any other ordering makes the reader do that sorting themselves.

Every entry now states its exam format, which is the fact that actually changes a decision — a 24-hour practical and a multiple-choice paper ask completely different things of you. Prices are deliberately absent: they drift faster than anything else here, and a stale price is worse than none because someone budgets around it.

Three checks. The one worth having verifies that every "prep with Paths 11–13" reference points at a path that exists — those numbers are hand-typed against a list that has been renumbered before, and a wrong one still renders perfectly because it is only a string.

AI crawlers are welcome here, and now there is a map for them

Nothing was ever blocking AI crawlers — the wildcard rule in robots.txt already allowed every one of them. But "we never got round to denying it" and "we deliberately allow it" look identical in a file that only has a wildcard, so the major AI crawlers and answer engines are now named explicitly: GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, CCBot, Google-Extended, Applebot-Extended and the rest. Two of those are not crawlers at all but permission tokens that only ever mean "may this train a model?", and the answer here is yes.

That is a deliberate choice, not an oversight. This site exists so that someone who cannot afford a course can still learn security properly. An answer engine quoting a lesson to a person who was never going to find this site is the mission working, not a leak from it.

New llms.txt: a plain-text index of the entire site written for language models, in the llmstxt.org format. robots.txt answers "may I read this?" and says nothing about what is here — and sitemap.xml is 592 bare URLs with no titles. This is the map: every path, lesson, lab and tool with its real title and a one-line description, in teaching order. 593 links, generated from the same arrays the site renders from so it cannot drift.

Six new checks, and one of them exists because of a genuine robots.txt trap: a crawler obeys only the most specific group matching its user-agent and ignores every other group, so a named AI group with no rule of its own would NOT inherit the wildcard's permission — it would leave behaviour undefined for exactly the crawlers it was added to welcome. Every group is now checked to carry its own rule, nothing may be disallowed, and every one of the 593 links in llms.txt is resolved against disk on each run. A map pointing at pages that do not exist is worse than no map.

The three newest sections were invisible — to Google, to the palette, and to the nav

Practice tasks, mock exams and search all shipped as hash routes and nothing else. A hash route is not a page as far as a crawler is concerned — everything after the # is discarded — so three of the site's most substantial sections existed only for people who already knew they were there. Practice and exam now have crawlable stubs with their own schema and sitemap entries, and the practice stub lists all 104 task questions, which is safe precisely because the answers are hashed and the explanations encrypted.

Search deliberately has no stub. Google's own guidance is to keep internal search result pages out of the index, and following it here costs nothing.

The command palette was missing all three routes, so the fastest way to reach anything on the site could not reach them at all. Added — and while in there, the last 27 palette icons were converted from emoji to the stroke-drawn set the rest of the interface uses, which was the remainder of a migration that had been left half-finished.

Practice now appears in the top navigation, and the README no longer describes a smaller site than the one that exists.

Three new checks lock this down: every content section must have a crawlable stub in the sitemap, every major section must be reachable from the palette, and no palette icon may be an emoji. The first two would have caught this batch's bugs on the day they were introduced.

Practice tasks tripled — 104 tasks, every path at least four

The task engine shipped with 36 tasks, which worked out at one or two per path where the platforms this is measured against run five to fifteen per unit. Now 104, and no path has fewer than four.

The new batch leans harder on work than recall: read this code and say what it prints, convert this subnet mask to CIDR, name the flaw in this endpoint, identify a file from its first four bytes, decide whether an unguessable ID actually fixes an authorisation bug. Several deliberately have an uncomfortable answer — no, a UUID is not a fix; no, you should not keep testing an out-of-scope host.

Every one of the 261 accepted answer variants is now round-tripped in a real browser on each test run: hashed, matched against the shipped hash, and used to decrypt its own explanation. Hand-written content fails through typos and normalisation mismatches, and checking a sample would miss precisely the broken one.

The build refuses to ship a hint that gives its own answer away, and caught three of mine while this batch was being written.

Practice tasks — type the answer, not pick it

Every serious security platform is built on the same loop: read, go and do something, type the answer you found, have it checked. TryHackMe rooms, Hack The Box skill assessments and PentesterLab exercises all work this way. This site had quizzes, where you recognise the right option, and labs, where you press buttons in a simulation — but nothing that made you produce an answer. Recognition is a much weaker signal than recall, and it is the difference between "I have seen this" and "I can do this". Practice tasks (#/tasks) close that gap.

Tasks are typed-answer, not multiple choice, and they favour doing over defining: compute the usable hosts in a /26, write the find command that lists SUID binaries, read a phishing URL and say where it really goes, build a CVSS vector from a described flaw, decode a Base64 flag.

The answers are not in the page. Only SHA-256 hashes ship, and — this is the part that actually matters — each explanation is encrypted with AES-GCM under a key derived from its own answer. Hashing the answer field alone would have been theatre, because a good explanation usually restates the answer and has to ship too. As it stands the explanation cannot be read out of the file without already knowing the answer, which also means explanations can be written properly instead of contorted to avoid naming the answer.

Answers are matched forgivingly where that is fair — case, surrounding spaces, a trailing full stop and number formatting are all ignored, and a task can accept several equivalent answers — but never so loosely that a wrong answer passes.

New rank ladder from Newcomer to Elite, drawn from everything you do: lessons read, labs solved, tasks answered, quizzes and mock exams passed. It shows on the tasks page and in your progress hub.

Nineteen new automated checks, most of them negative: that a wrong answer is refused, that it reveals nothing, and that no answer is recoverable from anything the browser downloads.

og-image.png — the card shown on every Reddit post, LinkedIn share, Twitter card, Discord embed and Slack unfurl — still advertised "23 paths · 226+ lessons" while the course had grown to 26 paths and 485 lessons. It is the first thing anyone ever sees of this site, and it was understating it by more than half, silently, because a PNG is invisible to every other check in the repo.

It is now generated at build time from the same arrays the site renders from, so it cannot drift again, and the numbers baked into it are written alongside it so a test fails the moment they disagree with reality. Verified by reintroducing the exact stale counts and watching the check fire.

The card also now leads with what actually sets this apart: free forever, no account, works offline, plain English — plus the labs and tools counts, which had never appeared on it at all.

Timed mock exams, real PDF certificates, and a search page you can link to

New timed mock exam (#/exam). Three papers — 90 questions in 90 minutes, 40 in 40, or a 20-question drill — drawn across all 26 paths in proportion to each path's size. Unlike the path quizzes, nothing is graded or revealed until you submit: you get a clock, free navigation, flag-for-review, and an unanswered count, which is the part that actually rehearses sitting a certification. The paper survives a refresh, an expired clock submits rather than resumes, and the score report breaks results down by path, lists every question you missed with its explanation, and feeds those questions into the existing spaced-repetition queue.

Certificates and transcripts are now real generated PDFs instead of browser print dialogs. Printing produced whatever each browser felt like — different margins, headers and scaling per browser — and the certificate was a screenshot of a bitmap. These are vector text at any zoom, with a multi-page transcript covering lessons, quiz results, mock exams and labs. Written as an 8KB generator using the standard PDF fonts rather than pulling in a 350KB library, because the site was deliberately moved off third-party scripts and a certificate is not a good reason to move back.

Search results now have their own page at #/search?q=… , so a result set can be linked, bookmarked and shared — and the site finally has a real search URL to put behind its structured data.

Search also stopped downloading 427KB of lesson text the instant you opened it. Nothing loads until you actually type; then a 77KB preview covering the opening of every lesson lands first, and the full index follows in the background so deeper matches fill in behind it. Opening search to jump to a page by name now costs nothing at all.

Thirty-six new automated checks cover all three. They earned their keep immediately: the exam suite caught that "Sit another paper" was a dead link, because the result view renders at #/exam so an anchor to #/exam changes nothing.

Interface overhaul — a real icon set, motion, and difficulty at a glance

Every tool and lab card used an emoji as its icon. Beyond looking like a ransom note next to the site's flat stroke icons, the emoji repeated — the same globe stood for the subnet calculator, the SSRF lab and DNS recon, and the same open padlock for three unrelated labs — so the icon told you nothing. All 74 are now drawn from one 63-glyph stroke set that inherits the current text colour, so it themes automatically and works in high-contrast mode.

The focus timer used to render above the lesson title, so starting it pushed the whole lesson down and the title stopped being the first thing on the page. It is now a pinned pill that stays out of the reading flow.

Path cards show difficulty as a colour-coded chip with a matching edge marker, so 26 near-identical cards can be scanned for "where do I start" and "what is out of my depth". The level is always spelled out, never colour alone.

Card grids now fade in with a short stagger instead of appearing all at once, entrance timing came down from 600ms to 420ms, and every animation moves only opacity and transform so nothing triggers layout. All of it switches off under reduced-motion.

Fixed the floating section mini-map: hidden labels still occupied width, so the dots landed at ragged positions instead of forming a column, and the longest label pushed its dot off the screen edge.

New automated checks cover contrast in both themes, tap-target size, focus visibility, reduced-motion, and the icons — 23 in total. They caught a genuine mistake made during this work: the first version of the difficulty chips measured 2.91:1 against the light theme, well under the 4.5:1 minimum.

Every tool and lab page rewritten with real content

The 74 tool and lab pages had about 53 words of their own content each, followed by a link list naming every other item in the section — a list that made up roughly 90% of the page and was identical across all of them. Search engines treat that as thin, duplicated content, so no amount of keyword work would have made those pages rank.

Each one now has a proper explanation of the concept, step-by-step instructions matching the tool's actual controls, the things worth taking away, and answers to the questions people genuinely search for — around 336 words per tool and 267 per lab, all newly written. The link list is down to a handful of genuinely related items.

Those answers are also marked up as FAQ data on all 74 pages plus the FAQ itself, which is the realistic opening in search: the head terms belong to sites like jwt.io and the CVSS standards body, but the questions underneath them are still winnable — especially with a free course and a hands-on lab behind every answer.

A new automated check fails the build if any of these pages drops back below 180 words of its own content.

Search-engine overhaul — every lesson can finally rank

Fixed the single biggest thing holding the site back in search: every one of the 587 crawlable pages declared its canonical URL as the SPA hash route (`/#/lesson/...`). Google discards everything after the `#`, so all of them were telling Google they were duplicates of the homepage — meaning no lesson, tool or lab could rank on its own. Each page now points at its own real URL.

Added the structured data search engines actually read: breadcrumbs on all 590 pages, Course data on every path (the format eligible for Google's course results), FAQ data on a new crawlable FAQ page, and — for the first time — a description of the site itself on the homepage, which previously had none at all.

Lesson data now states reading time, level, language and last-updated date, and the sitemap carries a real last-modified date per page taken from the project history, so edits get re-crawled instead of sitting unnoticed.

New internal linking: previous/next links on every lesson, a full index of all 26 paths, and breadcrumbs that lead somewhere (they all pointed at the homepage before). Four new automated checks make the canonical mistake impossible to reintroduce.

Lessons no longer depend on a third-party CDN

Site-wide audit fix. The markdown renderer used to load from cdn.jsdelivr.net and was chained behind Mermaid, so a blocked or slow CDN showed "Couldn't load the lesson renderer" on every one of the 485 lessons — and the offline promise only held after one successful load.

marked is now vendored locally (pinned, service-worker precached) and Mermaid is strictly optional: lesson text renders immediately, diagrams fill in afterwards, and a diagram that never loads collapses to a tidy placeholder instead of dumping raw diagram source at the reader.

Since 60% of lessons contain no diagram at all, those lessons no longer wait on the largest library on the page. A new CI test loads lessons with the CDN blocked so this can never regress.

Also fixed: the homepage's SEO and social-share metadata still advertised "24 paths, 235 sub-lessons" (two content expansions out of date), two broken "Next up" links in Path 04 that dead-ended the Python chain, and all page scripts now load deferred rather than blocking the parser.

Twenty-sixth batch of the course-wide "double everything" effort, extending beyond lessons into the interactive Labs and Tools sections: LABS grows from 21 to 42, TOOLS grows from 16 to 32.

New labs span web (CSRF, command injection, open redirect, clickjacking, insecure deserialization), recon (subdomain takeover, DNS recon), infrastructure (Windows/Linux privesc, Kerberoasting, cloud IAM misconfig, Docker socket escape), malware analysis (strings triage, YARA rule building), business logic (a real race-condition redemption exploit), API security (webhook HMAC forgery, OAuth redirect hijacking), and GRC/IR (vendor tiering, an incident response tabletop) — plus password cracking and a leaked-secret hunt.

New tools cover networking (CIDR overlap checker, VLSM planner), crypto (Diffie-Hellman visualizer, timing-attack visualizer, Base32/Base85), and practitioner utilities (entropy calculator, raw HTTP builder, log grep playground, risk register builder, SBOM checker, email header analyzer, password policy checker, YARA tester, incident SLA calculator, compliance control mapper, User-Agent parser).

Every new lab and tool reuses the existing house style and CSS classes rather than introducing new visual patterns, and all 74 lab/tool routes were smoke-tested end to end with zero rendering errors before merge.

16 new self-contained CTF puzzles across API Security (BOLA, mass assignment, rate-limit bypass), a JWT chain (weak-secret brute force, algorithm confusion, kid header injection), business logic bugs (price tampering, coupon-replay race condition, step-skipping), AI Red Teaming (prompt leak, indirect injection, jailbreak-the-judge), plus Crypto (small-prime RSA factoring), Forensics (EXIF metadata trail), and Linux privesc (SUID interpreter abuse).

Every challenge now carries an explicit difficulty tier (Easy/Medium/Hard) and progressive hints.

New closing lesson: a six-part solution write-up template (summary, recon, hypothesis, exploitation steps, root cause, remediation) with a worked example, for turning CTF solves into portfolio-ready write-ups or bug bounty reports.

Removed Listen mode and Playlist mode — the browser text-to-speech read-aloud feature was unreliable across Chrome and Safari (silent playback, stalled mid-lesson) and has been pulled rather than patched further.

Fixed a real bug: clicking a nav or footer link (Paths, Careers, Tracks, etc.) could leave the page scrolled wherever you already were instead of jumping to the top of the new page — a site-wide smooth-scroll style was getting cut off by the page content swapping in.

Listen mode: lessons can now be read aloud (where your browser supports speech).

Daily challenge (#/daily): one question a day from across the course, and it counts toward your streak.

Two new labs — a SQL-injection sandbox and a phishing-spotter game.

Three new tools — a regex tester, a hash identifier, and an HTTP security-header analyzer.

A shareable progress card you can download/post, and a command palette (Ctrl/Cmd+K) that jumps to any page, tool, or lab.
